Use this guide to check the size of collar or harness you need for your dog.
Sizing your pet
It is important to get the correct size for your pet to ensure the best possible fit for your dogs comfort and safety.
Collars and harnesses are sized by the designers and each can use very different sizing scales. What is described as small in one brand, can often be a medium in another.
Dog breeds can also vary in size with some breed standards spanning many different size ranges. The best way of finding out which size is best, is to measure your dog yourself and apply simple rules of thumb.
Typical Breed Size
You can type in your dogs breed below and see typical sizes for them. These sizes are a guide only. Sizes within some breeds can vary considerably, so it's always best to measure your dog directly.
Measuring for a collar
You can measure the size of your dogs existing collar by measuring from the centre of the buckle, to the best fitting hole that your dog uses, or you can measure directly on your dogs neck.
Take a flexible tape measure and place around your dogs actual neck (not over their existing collar), insert a couple of your fingers for comfort and record the measurement. All our collars show 2 measurements between. Select the collar where your dogs neck size you have measured, comes between these two sizes.
If you have a puppy, it's important that you check the collar regularly to see if your puppy has outgrown it. It's also best to choose a collar slightly larger than you require as your puppy will soon grow into it.
Measuring for a harness
Make sure your dog is standing up before you start..
Stand over your dog and place one end of the tape measure on his spine, just above the widest part of his rib cage. With your other hand, wrap the tape measure behind his front legs and around his body, going underneath the widest part of his rib cage. Place this end next to the beginning of the tape. Put your thumb on the number that meets up with the beginning of the tape measure. This number is the girth measurement.
If your dogs measurement falls between two different sizes, select the smaller size for the best fit.
